Our Olde Marco History
Our location on Marco Island is in the heart of ‘Old Marco Village’, the original ‘hub’ of the islanders.
Dating back to 1870, our site has hosted a lot of the island’s history!
In the early 20th century, our site served as the home to Griffis and Griffis Mercantile Store, the one stop shop for all the islander’s day to day needs including: groceries, fishing tackle, hardware, gas and pretty much everything that anyone would need, as well as being the social network spot for the island.
Burned down in 1964, the building that we now know and enjoy visiting was then built and opened as a place for high end fishing clients, in large part that it’s located on a great snook hole!!!
Since then, the location continues to delight anglers from all over the world, especially during the snook seasons (March 1 – April 30; September 1 – November 30).
Along the way, the Mackle brothers of the Deltona Corporation bought the property to use for housing the workers employed to build the Marriott hotel. These Marco Island visionaries — Elliott, Robert, and Frank, Jr., are responsible for the modern development of Marco Island.
In 1994 the property was purchased by the current owners, the Buhelos family. With support from community, family and friends, Desiree and Nick have cared for, updated and transformed the property into a hidden gem among the chain hoteliers of the island. Nestled on the Northern tip, along the bank of Collier Creek, the Boat House Marco Island offers a variety of clean and comfortable accommodations to fit any size group of family or friends, a year round pool, docks for sunbathing and fishing, boat slips, pet friendly (both offered with direct, phone bookings only), BBQ’s, short ride to beaches, museum, nightlife, restaurants, adventures and so much more…. Plus, the most engaging staff willing to help in any way possible to ensure you have great memories of a lifetime.
