Marco Island in the Running for most beautiful town! |

Marco Island’s pristine beaches and never-ending list of attractions has put it in contention to be named the Most Beautiful Towns in America. Marco Island is one of six towns vying for the title. Marco Island’s competitors for Most Beautiful include
Pacifica, Calif., Coral Gables, Fla., Laguna Beach, Calif., Baker City, Ore., and Franklin, Tenn. “When I wanna make other people jealous I Twitter about the beaches,” Jo-Ann Sanborn, a local artist in Marco Island said. “Even in the winter, the beaches here are wonderful.” Between June 23rd and July 15th, a total of 30 towns will be judged by a panel of travel experts and the Best of the Road® 2011 Rally teams. There are five different categories in the contest including: Most Patriotic, Most Fun, Friendliest, Best for Food, and Most Beautiful. “We’re very proud to be selected,” said Sandy Riedemann, the Executive Director of Marco Island Chamber of Commerce. “There’s lots of things to see and do here, all in a beautiful setting.” Riedemann went on to name a long list of attractions including: museums, parks, beaches, air boat tours, and many others. The contest is sponsored by USA Today and Rand McNally. The winner will be announced on July 22nd in New Orleans and will be featured on USA Today’s travel page as well as in the 2013 edition of the Rand McNally Road Atlas. Sanborn, who moved to Marco Island in 1993, believes the attribute that makes Marco stand out amongst other towns is the beach. “I think we have fabulous sunsets,” Sanborn said. “There is a certain romance when coming over the bridge seeing the flowers and palm trees swaying.” To help earn Marco Island top honors, you can vote on the official Best of the Road ® website. |
